Today, we’re chatting with Environmental Consultant Agnes Richard.
We’re so pleased that you’ve joined the team, Agnes. Can you tell me a bit about your previous roles and experiences?
Of course. I studied a master’s programme in Environmental Engineering and Project Management. After the programme I worked as an Analyst- working on embodied carbon in infrastructure projects, which heightened my interest in the carbon management sector and led me to apply for the consultant role at GEP. Whilst finishing my degree, I attended all sorts of classes – everything from waste management and water management to environmental microbiology – and found it fascinating to explore the Environmental sector from different angles.
What made you want to work in the Environmental sector?
I’ve always wanted to work in the Environmental sector. Carbon management is appealing because it’s growing and there’s something new to be learnt every day – I love a challenge. At university I was exposed to Carbon Management through my dissertation, and as soon as I saw how complex the subject was, I knew that this was the perfect opportunity to learn something new every day and to give back to the environment. The scale of the challenge in the sector is tremendous, but it feels good to know that I’m taking such an active role in shaping our future.
That’s fantastic. So, at GEP, what projects have you been working on, and what are you looking forward to working on in the future?
Right now, I’m working on two very interesting verification projects – it’s the first time I’ve done anything like this by myself, and I’m really enjoying the process. It’s so interesting to me to find out about an organisation’s carbon footprint, and to use the methodologies to undertake the calculations to help them reduce the footprint. I’m also really looking forward to diving in on more carbon management projects. While doing my degree, we touched briefly on carbon management but didn’t have the time to unpack it. It’ll be a great opportunity to unpack what I’ve learned, and to do all these things that I’ve heard so much about for myself.
Thanks so much for taking the time to chat to us, Agnes, and a warm welcome from the GEP Environmental team!
