GEP Environmental Welcomes to the Team: Ollie Loveday-Lovell

22nd November 2022

At GEP Environmental, we’ve been delighted to welcome new faces to the team over the past few months. Today, we’re chatting with Environmental Consultant Ollie Loveday-Lovell.

We’re so pleased that you’ve joined the team, Ollie. Can you tell me a bit about your previous roles and experiences?

Before joining the GEP Environmental team, I worked as part of the sustainability team at a small organisation. In that role, I collated and analysed sustainability data and supported the business in setting out the next steps to achieving Net Zero Carbon. It was an interesting organisation to work for, because they were already carbon negative, so the majority of the activity I undertook focused on getting those sustainability messages out to clients and dotting the i’s and crossing the t’s when it came to downstream emissions. The organisation sold food products, so we were looking at granular things, such as the recyclability of packaging, the individual carbon footprints of food flavouring, reducing plastic and offsetting emissions. We also focused on procurement, which was one of the largest carbon emitters for the organisation along with energy and water.

How fascinating. What made you want to work in the environmental sector?

Environmental science really interested me at school – in the spirit of honesty, it piqued my interest because there was so much variety. That’s really what I enjoy about my role in the environmental sector now. It’s a very diverse space, and there are loads of changes, updates, new practices, and new science to get your head around. I enjoy the variety and having plenty to do.

What projects are you working on now, and what are you looking forward to working on in the future?

At the moment, I’ve been working on legal registers – collating all the environmental legislation an organisation would need to be aware of and producing a report for the client. I’ve also done some work with carbon reduction plans and PPN 06/21, and I’m also calculating emissions trajectories for clients to ensure that they’re meeting legislative requirements.

I’m really interested in getting my feet in under the table and working on carbon footprint assessment projects. My favourite projects to work on are the larger strategy pieces. The best projects are the ones where you get the baseline, set up the strategy, and watch it all come together – those are the ones where I feel I make the most impact.

Thanks so much for taking the time to chat with us, Ollie, and a warm welcome from the GEP Environmental team!
