GEP Environmental Welcomes to the Team: Sam Jones

At GEP Environmental, we’ve been delighted to welcome new faces to the team over the past few months. Today, we’re chatting with Environmental Consultant Sam Jones.

We’re so pleased that you’ve joined the team, Sam. Can you tell me a bit about your previous roles and experiences?

I’m joining the GEP Environmental team after completing my masters degree in Environmental Consultancy at Newcastle University. After attending lectures and hearing about this career in a theoretical sense, I’m quite excited to really get my feet in under the table and learn what it means practically to be a part of an environmental consultancy.

What made you want to work in the Environmental sector?

I’ve always been excited by the opportunities available in the Environmental sector – though there’s a tremendous amount of work to be done, I’m very optimistic that we’ll be able to achieve the goals that have been set out for Net Zero Carbon and other sustainability initiatives. After completing my undergraduate degree in Marine Biology, I realised that I didn’t want to go into academia – I wanted to work with real-world projects and target the organisations and businesses that would benefit most from an environmental perspective. What I found very fascinating was looking at work done by the EIA – the effects of windfarm development, human and biosphere elements, but I’ve found myself drawn to work with real world projects and implement the science with something tangible.

That’s fantastic. So, at GEP, what projects have you been working on, and what are you looking forward to working on in the future?

I’m really enjoying all the projects I’ve been involved in so far. The area of consultancy that GEP Environmental operates in is fascinating. Over the past few weeks, I’ve had the opportunity to look at Net Zero Carbon projects as well as research projects. It’s interesting to see how mainstream the climate crisis has become, and I’m thrilled to have the opportunity to work with such a wide variety of businesses on an equally wide variety of projects.
