Wiltshire Council – Energy Certificates

The Framework, which is run by Wiltshire Council is for Energy Performance Certificates (EPCs) and Display Energy Certificates (DECs). The Framework covers all requirements for EPC’s and DEC’s within the region and will run into December 2023. With the successful appointment of GEP Environmental to the framework we are now able to provide assistance for all EPC and DEC requirements.

Energy Performance Certificates

Energy Performance Certificates provide an energy efficiency rating from ‘A’ to ‘G’ for a building, with A being very efficient and G inefficient. It is a legal requirement to hold an EPC for all new, rented or sold buildings and each certificate it valid for a period of 10 years.

An EPC must be carried out by a qualified and accredited energy assessor who will undertake a site visit to examine the building. Upon completion of the examination the assessor will issue a certificate showing the buildings energy efficiency rating, along with recommendations on ways to improve the rating and save money.

Display Energy Certificates

Display Energy Certificates display the operational rating of the building, from ‘A’ (very efficient) to ‘G’ (inefficient) and are required by public authorities if a building meets the following criteria:

  • It is at least partially occupied by a public authority
  • It has a total floor area of over 250m²
  • It is visited by the public

A DEC must also be carried out by a qualified and accredited energy assessor, and the certificate must be displayed in a place visible to the public. A DEC is valid for 12 months, if the buildings total floor area is more than 1,000 square metres, and valid for 10 years if the floor area is between 250 and 1,000 square metres.
