The European Energy Efficiency Directive has resulted in the implementation of the Energy Efficiency (Private Rented Property) (England and Wales) Regulations 2015 and the Assessment of Energy Performance of Non-Domestic Buildings (Scotland) Regulations 2016. These both require assessment of individual buildings and building portfolios to determine whether they meet minimum energy efficiency standards. Where the buildings do not meet the required standards, they will be restricted from being let out or sold. We can help you assess your portfolio and also help you implement any required improvements.
The EU Energy Directive has been enacted in Scotland under the provisions of Section 63. This requires that any building over 1,000m2 that fails to meet the 2002 Building Regs must have a further action plan preparing to make improvements. Owners can elect to produce Display Energy Certificates (DEC) annually as an alternative route to compliance. GEP can provide both the Section 63 assessment for you and help with the subsequent route to compliance.
Any owner of a tenanted building attached to a district heating network or a building with multiple tenants that are supplied with heating and/or cooling is required to assess whether it is viable to install heat metering to enable individual tenants to understand their heating use and minimise costs. We can help you carry out this assessment and complete the necessary submissions.
The Energy Savings Opportunities Scheme placed a requirement on all major energy users to submit a report assessing their consumption and making recommendations for saving measures. The phase 1 compliance deadline was in December of 2015, and we are now half way to the next deadline in December of 2019. GEP will undertake an interim assessment for you to confirm that the necessary processes for data collection are on track, that your evidence pack is up to date, and to help prepare an action plan to meet the 2019 deadline with no fuss and in the most cost-effective way.
As building regulations and standards become more onerous, meeting the regulations whilst maintaining comfortable and productive internal environments is becoming more challenging. We can help you investigate different design strategies and technologies to ensure that your new build or refurbishment project results in a building that has an optimal internal environment, while having the minimum carbon impact and is inexpensive to run.
