Energy Efficiency and Decarbonisation Assessments

Energy Efficiency and Decarbonisation Assessments

GEP Environmental are specialists in energy efficiency and decarbonisation assessments and strive to provide organisations with ways to lower their energy consumption and costs. Following a site audit, a detailed report is compiled which reviews current energy consumption data, analyses operational procedures and existing energy conservation measures, and quantifies potential savings projects which could be implemented. All recommendations are developed to forecast an accurate return on investment.

What is an Energy Efficiency and Decarbonisation Assessment, and why is it Important?

An energy efficiency and decarbonisation assessment may review the energy consumption of a single building or multiple sites, dependent on the organisation’s needs. It will highlight any good and bad practices observed, as well as the working condition of energy consuming equipment, before making recommendations for improvement. This can provide a starting point for a strategy to improving the energy efficiency and decarbonisation of the building(s) once assessed. A strategic approach such as this allows plans to be developed and created, highlighting where to focus for improving building operations and future operational procedures in line with best practice guidance. Overall, this will improve the organisation’s energy performance and lower the associated costs.

The Benefits of Energy Efficiency and Decarbonisation Assessments

An energy efficiency and decarbonisation assessment will provide the benchmark performance of the site(s) which can be used to evaluate performance against similar sites within an organisation’s portfolio. This data can also be used for historical performance comparisons after the recommended energy saving projects have been implemented. The provided recommendations report also includes comments on existing buildings services and control, reviews the current management procedures and policies, and identifies the condition of the building fabric and key assets.

The areas where improvements can be made are outlined, with an action plan highlighting potential energy savings projects, cost savings, and return on investment provided.

How can GEP Environmental help you?

GEP Environmental will discuss what your exact requirements for the assessment are, and whether they relate to energy and carbon reduction, commercial savings, legal requirements, or CSR improvements.

Once the project scope and time scale have been finalised our experienced engineers will undertake a site visit where possible. This will include auditing the energy consumption of all key assets and reviewing any existing management policies in addition to assessing the characteristics of the building which may be impacting energy efficiency and decarbonisation. Where applicable GEP Environmental will undertake a risk analysis.

Upon completion of the assessment GEP Environmental’s report will highlight the current energy performance and provide recommendations for improvements. The report will assess the building services, plant, and equipment in operation, in addition to general energy management observations.

The recommendations will provide commentary on the requirements to initiate and implement the energy saving projects outlined.

The action plan will emphasise the benefits of each suggestion, enabling our client to focus on making informed decisions as to how to reduce energy consumption and the associated expenditure. The return on investment is calculated in line with the client’s financial requirements, and can be provided as:

  • Payback method
  • Net present value method
  • Internal rate of return method
